The vision of the Guerau Lab is to bring forward better treatments and diagnostics for autoimmune and inflammatory disease patients. Our strategy is to take advantage of Basic and Translational Immunology approaches to understand the molecular mechanisms driving pathogenic T cells and macrophages and inflammatory/autoimmune disease. Dr. Guerau’s research focus is on studying multiple sclerosis, as well as lung inflammation. Specifically, Dr. Guerau is interested in understanding how the gene expression programs in T cells and macrophages are regulated toward pathogenic inflammatory phenotypes in T cells and macrophages. Specifically, we are interested in the therapeutic and/or diagnostic biomarker potential of PRMT5 and CD38, two proteins with enzymatic activity expressed in immune cells.

Essential Responsibilities. The successful candidate will:
- Identify macrophage molecular mechanisms that drive inflammation and Multiple Sclerosis autoimmunity
- Independently plan, design and execute complex experiments using advanced scientific techniques and methods that include molecular, cellular, in vivo murine disease models and human samples
- Collect and compile results of research; conduct and interpret graphical and statistical analysis of data
- Develop, adopt and implement new laboratory methods to determine cause and effect
- Ensures Responsible Conduct of Research, including IRB compliance
- Read and review the scientific literature, write and submit manuscripts, articles and abstracts for publication in scientific journals
- Attend and present results of research at national scientific conferences, seminars and workshops
- Collaborate with principal investigator to write and submit grant applications with the goal of obtaining extramural support Works with and train undergraduate and graduate students on adopting new research techniques.
- Support the collaborative research environment and provides guidance on technical and operational aspects of research.
Qualifications. Who Are We Looking For?
- Energetic and highly motivated Post-doctoral Researcher with a strong background in Immunology, particularly in inflammation and macrophage biology
- PhD in Immunology or related field with strong Immunology experience (or close to completion)
- Tissue cell culture, flow cytometry, in vivo mouse models of disease and molecular/protein assay experience is a must.
- Must have strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy in work.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Must have outstanding organizational skills to manage multiple projects
- Willing and eager to learn novel and evolving technologies.
- Experience with EAE models and T cell assays is also desirable.
