The Clark lab investigates host-pathogen interactions with a focus on innate immune responses to bacteria in the respiratory tract. We use tissue culture, in vivo infection models, and clinical samples to explore the impact of respiratory tract commensal and pathogenic bacteria on inflammation and infection in the upper and lower airway.
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to spearhead research investigating host and microbial factors that promote bacterial otitis media (ear infection) using our newly developed murine model. Additional projects include investigating how potentially beneficial members of the airway microbiome impact protection against lung infection with the bacterial pathogens Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae. Overall, the goal of these studies is to identify microbial factors and host immune pathways which improve the clearance and resolution of respiratory tract infections.
