Postdoctoral Fellow
University of California San Francisco
San Francisco, California
The Feeney lab in the Division of Experimental Medicine at UCSF is seeking 1-2 highly motivated postdoctoral fellows to investigate the role of gamma delta T cells in fetal and infant host defense against pathogens, including malaria and CMV. Candidates interested in translational human immunology research and/or global health are encouraged to apply.
The Feeney lab has robust international collaborations, primarily in Uganda. We have established large sample banks of PBMC, cord blood, and placental specimens in order to better understand maternofetal tolerance and the impact of in utero antigen exposure on fetal T cells, using techniques including flow/spectral/mass cytometry and single-cell genomics. Our lab culture is highly collaborative and in addition to leading their own project, the postdoctoral fellow will have opportunities to contribute to other team projects in lab and to develop and participate in external collaborations, as well as mentoring of students and junior lab members as part of career development. Additional professional development opportunities will be available through affiliation with the newly launched ImmunoX program at UCSF (https://immunox.ucsf.edu).
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a PhD or MD/PhD degree and experience in immunology, microbiology, or infectious diseases. Experience with cell culture techniques and flow and/or mass cytometry experience is strongly preferred. Bioinformatics and high-dimensional data analysis skills are desirable, but not required, and support for bioinformatics training will be provided. The candidate needs to be able to work independently and in a collaborative team, and should have excellent written and oral communication skills. Members of underrepresented minority groups and women are strongly encouraged to apply.
Required Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in immunology, molecular biology, or a relevant discipline
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
To apply, please send CV, cover letter, and names and contact info for 3 references to Dr. Margaret Feeney, Professor, Division of Experimental Medicine, UCSF (Margaret.feeney@ucsf.edu) with the subject line “Postdoctoral Fellow position”.
We offer a competitive salary adjusted for cost of living and an excellent benefits package.
The mission of the Division of Experimental Medicine is to understand the human immune system so that lifesaving therapies and vaccines can be developed to protect against chronic infectious diseases of global importance, and to establish a training environment that fosters patient-oriented research in the U.S. and abroad.
