EMD Serono in Billerica, MA is seeking a Scientist to join the Exploratory Immunology team at our state-of-the-art research facility. The Scientist will contribute to the discovery of drugs for neuro-inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. You will work collaboratively with a group of scientists to develop novel therapeutic modalities that align with the Neurology & Immunology portfolio. The role entails proposing, validating, and executing innovative project concepts centered on new targets. You will be responsible for execution of in vitro and ex vivo cell-based assays that will further our mechanistic understanding of human autoimmune/neuro-inflammatory diseases and qualify potential drug candidates. The Scientist will also prepare posters, presentations and manuscripts for internal and external audiences and publication in journals.
Who you are:
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in Immunology, Neuroscience, or other Science discipline OR
- Master’s degree in Biology, Pharmacology, or other Science discipline with 2+ years of research experience OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Pharmacology, or other Science discipline with 5+ years of experience in drug discovery
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pharmaceutical industry experience
- Specific knowledge and hands-on experience in the following areas are highly desirable:
- Immunology: Immune cell isolation from human whole blood/PBMC or mouse organs such as spleen/bone marrow, flow cytometry and cell sorting
- Cell and molecular biology: mammalian cell culture, cell imaging using microscopy, protein, nucleic acid purification/quantification, gene expression analysis and knowledge/expertise in RNA biology
- Organoid culture and ex vivo assay in 2D/3D culture system
- Gene editing: CRISPR-Cas9/lentivirus transduction, AAV based manipulation or mRNA-delivery based cell modification
- Induced pluripotent stem cell differentiation: iPSC-derived microglia, neuron
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a self-motivated manner
- Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional team and lead projects to meet set objectives
- Excellent interpersonal and written communications skills
- Enthusiasm and passion for exploring new biology with relevance to human disease
- Ability to rigorously review literature and staying up to date with latest advances in biology/therapeutics
